I was uninspired to make anything in inkscape these past months… but just now I’ve stumbled upon a great amazing youtube video of making icon persons !!! It was wonderful example on using shadows, gradients and shiny tecniques! wow, wow, wow!!! I wanna do one! Amazing how the artist properly designed the clothes and hair! what a talent! waaahhhh!!! I’m so happy to have seen this!!!

 
For our eee100 (Electronics Prototyping course), we were assigned to design an AC to DC supply with 3 outputs. 2 constant DC output voltages: 3.3V and 5V and 1 adjustable from 1.25V to 9V. It also includes 4 LED indicators for the 3 outputs and the ‘ON’ indicator (plugged in outlet). The design must be properly packaged with switches to control the state of the output.

After tons of researching, the circuit was actually quite simple… here’s how converting AC to DC works:

From the input of 220V AC, a transformer is needed to step down the AC voltage. The rating of the transformer is set to 12-0-12 so that it would be greater than the output voltages and have a current of 1 Ampere.

                The full wave rectifier and a capacitor across give smooth DC output. The capacitor value must be in hundreds micro range. We chose a value of 470uF. The bridge rectifier has a rating of 250V and 1Amp.

                To remove the ripples from the capacitor, the DC output should be passed to a Voltage Regulator. IC voltage regulators were used instead of other voltage regulator designs (zener regulator, etc) to ensure no loading effects and the voltage output is exact. LM317T was used for the adjustable voltage output and for the 3.3V output while LM7805 was used for the 5V output.

                For the LED indicators, they were connected parallel with the voltage regulators. Connected in series with the LED is a current limiting resistor with the typical value of 330Ω and 1/2watts.

                The output of the adjustable IC Voltage Regulator, LM317T.. to know everything about it, CLICK HERE. For the adjustable voltage output, R2 is set to be a variable resistor with a maximum value of 5kΩ. R1 is then computed to be equal to 830Ω (360Ω+470Ω). For the constant output voltage of 3.3V, R2 is computed to be 1.5kΩ and R1 to be 910Ω.

Here is our PCB Layout.. Take note that since there is no available package of LM317 in the library of eagle, we replaced it to 7805 but the connections are still of LM317.. same goes to the bridge rectifier, W045 is not available in eagle so we adjusted the connections of what was available.

But before fabricating the board, prototyping should be done first to ensure correct design

Once it works direct to fabricating, drilling, soldering and lastly, packaging.. ^_^

I must say Inkscape has what I’ve always needed in a software.. plus the video tutorials from heathenex screencasters were very helpful!

here with me right now is a stuff pig which is alive.. she has very pitchy voice and is very makulet (crazy).. she is scared to jump over my bed not like her best friend which is hearty (?)… so not like other pigs, she is colored cream not pink.. but she said “but i have a pink noossseee”… But the most important thing about her is that she has an allergic reaction to corn (“aachooo!!!”)

Below is the ’smiley’ that i  sketch anywhere, anytime… even at exams i tend to sketch this fellow (mostly when i’m stuck in a problem or am already finished with it).. The professors do not mind or doesn’t even care to notice my signature smiley so i won’t be accused of anything bad for putting it… ^_^..

anyway, i really don’t know whether it is male or female, or if the fluffy thing  above its head are wings or hair or hands…And i’m also bothered with the colors i chose, of course originally i sketch it using only a pen hence putting color is really problematic for me.. yup it is.. But this is the smiley I’ve been unconsciously putting wherever i get my hands on a paper and pen so I might as well stick with it.. no matter how  weird it is.. ^_^

I’ve practiced using gradients for the two above and i think i’m getting the hang of it.. little by little i can make something bigger..hopefully.. ^_^

hi. I have decided to get serious in using inkscape for creating my works. As i have said in my previous compliments, it is simple but does the work. However, i haven’t tried the famous vector-graphics software Adobe Illustrator. I wonder if it pretty much has the same properties as inkscape. If it does, then i’ll stick to inkscape. But if control is easier for illustrator then i’d go for it. Anyway, Icons and Cartoons are my main focus of my creations. I hope in the near future i would create a better looking avatar and use my very own icons.  I also dream creating my own design and my own buttons for this blog account (even my RSS feed icon.. ^_^).  However, for me to that i ave to work on studying how to edit a code or a script.. sigh nevermind..

hi… i will be having 3 exams left after tomorrow and i’m getting ready for another bigtime vacation! haha….. i’m recently downloading applications used for imaging or graphic design that i’ll try over the vacation. I’ve given up on looking for adobe illustrator CS2 installer + crack, so i’m searching for an alternative.

Then i saw Inkscape.

not so heavy, easy to understand vector graphic software that pretty much does the job.

PS: my laptop is lagging, why so?

anyway, i’ve also searched for other products done by Ulead besides the GIF animator.

Then i saw Ulead  cool 3D! It looks fun to try!actually i’ve tried it already but it’s going to take time before i get used to it.

and i’m still trying to practice photoshop, swish even web designing! I also want to improve this blog account and make my own design.

But with classes around I’m not getting anything done…

so i’m craving for summer..

i’m craving for some time for my own interest…

since i have no exams this week i happen to blog twice consecutively…

anyway, although i am an aspiring electronics engineer i wish to have time doing some of my other interest which is to draw..  just like everybody else if you like doing something, and you know how to, it’s best to learn more, practice and improve. It’s a shame if you let it die out… so hopefully even if i am working, traveling everywhere (dream on!! ), or just being a mother, i would still have time sketching, or better yet use a wacom cintiq WX (or a better version in the near future). Haha. Isn’t it cool to think that your not only an engineer but a cartoonist!? yes, very inspiring thought of mind.. haha.

Well, besides my future plans of still pursuing a sideline for animation, I am inspired (thanks to alvin) to look for blogs that concern drawing/caricatures for Live bookmarking.

Here’s the best that i’ll keep myself updated!

Someday i’ll be great…but first, i need an adobe illustrator!!!
